An Afternoon at the Playground!

I thought I would be a good Mom today. I took Brevon and Dani to the playground. I asked them to stick together so I could sit down and eat my lunch while they played. After about two minutes Brevie had to go to the bathroom and it was an EMERGENCY so off to the port a johns we go but I wasn't done with my lunch. Dani sat with my yummy salad while we went over to the yucky facilities. Soon after (of course we used hand sanitizer, at least a half a bottle each) the lil ones went off and played, I finish my lunch and decide to call my sister. While we are talking the ice cream truck comes.

Now fortunately my children have been unaware of what the creepy yellow vans that floats around most neighborhoods are all about. (We live on a fast, busy road and even if the truck drives by it does NOT have the music on.) Ahh bliss. Until all the kids go running and my children are trying to check out what this is all about. I politely ask them to go off and play and continue on with my discussion with my sister. After another minute and probably a gallon of drool coming out of my precious wee one's mouths a kind elderly lady comes over and asks if she can buy ice cream for my children. I must of looked at her funny cause she goes onto say she feels sorry for them watching all of the other children on the playground eating ice cream. I must've nodded my head cause she walks off with my children to go over to the creepy yellow van. I very quickly realize I have sent my precious children with a complete stranger to the very creepy yellow ice cream truck. Now I decide to excuse myself from my phone call with my dear sister and go and make sure my children are minding their p's and q's. Well the lady very nicely bought them each a bubble gum ice cream bar. (Lucky kids, I would've made them share!)

I made sure they told the lady "Thank You" at least two times. Went back to the picnic table I was hoarding, sat down watched the wee ones eat their ice cream and decided I was bored so I call my sister back.

Soon after this gentleman walks over to the playground, creepy looking guy, watches all of the kids on the playground for like a half an hour, then walks off. (Jason later informs me I should've taken a picture "just in case". Aren't we trusting folks???)

Soon after this a beautiful Black Lab comes running over, no leash, no owner just running around. Of course every kid wants to check out the "new dog". Another gentleman there was in the process of calling Animal Control, so I let him take care of it. A bit later the dog comes back and this time enters the playground area and starts antagonizing the other dogs (on leashes). Finally the first gentleman gets close enough to look at the collar and call the owner.

The owner saunters over after a few minutes and he wants to know what the problem is. He says to the first gentleman, "He won't hurt a flea." Umm, I am sorry sir but we don't trust dogs running around a playground, unattended, with children around AND the city has a leash ordinance. (Of course for once I did NOT have a dog leash in my van!)

Very quickly after, we left. I couldn't handle anymore drama (time to re-dose the zanax (you know the nice little pill my doctor seems to think I need for all of my extra stress!)) and pick up Lexi from school. Our playground at home seems much more inviting again! :-)
