We have spent the past week on our family trip to Big Star Lake, in Baldwin, MI. There were a lot of good stories from the week but one of my favorites follows. Enjoy!
We arrived in Baldwin Saturday afternoon. The kids took to swimming in the lake and us adults sat around waiting for others to show up.
Around supper time, Lexi decided that her loose tooth was bothering her. She had been wiggling it all the way up and had the blood on her shirt to show. She grabbed one of our towels and wiggled endlessly!
At bedtime, Lexi was the last to take her bath due to her wiggling her tooth. When I tucked her in, this poor tooth was holding on by a thread. I let her take the towel to bed, knowing she would be out of bed shortly to show me her newly lost tooth.
Soon, Brevon came out of the room to complain about the girls talking (Lexi & her cousin, Susie). Jason tucked him back in and asked the girls to go to sleep.
About an hour later, I realized that Lexi had not come out. I was shocked that she could fall asleep with the tooth still in her mouth! I went in to check on her. She is completely zonked out. I felt around on her sheets for the tooth in case it had dropped out. No tooth. I decided to check her mouth by sticking my finger into her mouth and feeling for the tooth. She reaches up to "shoo" me away but still sleeps. No tooth. I gently pick up her head and move her pillow. BINGO! Tooth was found.
I stepped out of the kids' room and informed the adults of what I had found. Apparently, Susie has been having some doubts about the tooth fairy. Possibly, their conversation that Brevon complained about was discussing how to test the tooth fairy tale.
I took her tooth and placed a dollar in its spot.
Next morning:
Lexi wakes us up. Doesn't mention the tooth, we don't say anything.
Five minutes later comes in and shows us her dollar. I asked her, "where did you get that?"
She replies, " my tooth fell out last night and the tooth fairy came."
"But Lexi, I didn't get to see your tooth. You never showed me!"
"Well, " she replies, " you can see this." As she shows me her new dollar bill.
So, I guess, the tooth fairy will still be active in our house for awhile longer. Possibly, Susie's doubts may be confudled. Overall, it was very deceptive and I cannot believe that my daughter pulled this off!
